Tablet Troubleshooting

What's happening?
Pick the one that matches:
Screen off · Step 1
Check the power
Push the charging cable in firmly. If that doesn't do it, try a different outlet. If the outlet works for other things (phone charger, lamp), the cable or tablet itself may be the issue. Try unplugging the tablet completely for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and just wait. Don't press anything. It should boot on its own.
Screen off · End
Probably a hardware issue
If a known-good outlet and a fresh power cycle don't bring it back, the tablet itself is likely the problem. This is beyond software.
Frozen screen
Force restart the tablet
Hold the power button for 10 seconds until the screen goes dark. Wait a few seconds, press the power button again. It'll take about a minute to boot back up. If it freezes again right away, something deeper is wrong and Michael should look at it.
HA issue · Step 1
Is the tablet connected to WiFi?
Check the WiFi icon at the top of the screen. If WiFi is connected, the Pi is probably down. Skip to the next step. If WiFi is missing, restart the router: unplug it for 30 seconds, plug it back in, wait a couple minutes for everything to reconnect.
HA issue · Step 2
Restart the Pi
Unplug the USB-C cable from the Pi (connected to the router in the shop). Wait 10 seconds, plug it back in. Red light comes on immediately, green light blinks. Give it 5 minutes. If it was a power outage, the hard drives may need a couple extra minutes to spin up.
End of the road
This one needs Michael
You've tried everything that can be done from the physical side. This needs someone who can dig into the software. Nothing is permanently broken. Jot down what you see (error messages, which lights are on/off) so they can diagnose faster.

Nice! You fixed it.

The tablet should be back to normal. If it acts up again, come back here.

Photos Troubleshooting

What's happening?
Pick the one that matches:
Can't reach photos
Is the Pi up?
Try http://192.168.88.4:8123 (Home Assistant). If HA loads, the Pi is fine but Immich needs a restart, which requires SSH. Skip to the last step to request a repair. If HA is also down, restart the Pi (unplug USB-C, wait 10s, replug, wait 5 min).
Blurry or missing thumbnails
Wake the Mac Mini
Thumbnail processing runs on the Mac Mini. If it's asleep, new thumbnails stop generating. Wake it up (move mouse or press a key). Existing thumbnails should start appearing within a few minutes. If it's already awake, this is a Michael issue.
Slow performance
Give the database a minute
If the Pi just restarted, the database needs a few minutes to warm up. Wait 5-10 min. If it's been slow for a while, restart the Pi (unplug the Pi's USB-C, wait 10s, replug). Persistent slowness after a restart is a Michael issue.
Login trouble
Try the default password
Go to http://192.168.88.4:2283. Your username is your email address. Password: check your passwords backup. If the password was recently changed and you don't know the new one, Michael needs to reset it from the Pi.
Needs Michael
This one's beyond the basics
Your photos are safe on physical hard drives regardless of what the software is doing. Nothing is lost. This needs a remote fix.

Nice! You fixed it.

Photos should be working normally. If something else comes up, come back here.

Quest Troubleshooting

Step 1 of 5
Is the tablet showing anything at all?
If the tablet screen is off or completely blank, this is a tablet problem, not a Quest problem.
Step 2 of 5
Spinning wheel or blank white screen?
Home Assistant is still starting up. Wait 2 to 3 minutes and then refresh by swiping down from the top of the page. This is common after a restart.
Step 3 of 5
Kids' points look wrong?
Don't try to fix the points manually. Note what looks wrong (which kid, what number it shows, what it should be) and tell Michael. He'll sort it out from his end.
Step 4 of 5
Can't complete chores?
Make sure the right kid is signed in. Tap the avatar in the top corner and re-sign in with that kid's PIN. Each kid can only complete their own chores.
Step 5 of 5
Nothing is working
Points and chore history are saved even during crashes, nothing is lost. Write chores down on paper for now and the points can be added later.

Nice! You fixed it.

Quest should be back to normal. Points and history are always saved.

Dog Tracker Troubleshooting

What's happening?
Pick the one that matches:
One dog offline
Collar battery
The GPS collar (small white device clipped to the dog's collar) needs charging every few days. Charge it via USB-C for about 2 hours, green light = full. Once it's back on the dog, tracking resumes within a few minutes. If a full charge doesn't fix it, the collar itself may have a hardware issue. Call Michael.
Both dogs offline
Base station or Mac Mini
Both dogs dropping at once means the receiving end is down, not the collars. The base station is the white, blinking device connected to the router in the garage. It talks to the Mac Mini over USB. Wake the Mac (move mouse/press key) and wait 5 minutes. If the Mac is already awake, check the base station's USB cable and replug it.
Still offline
Bridge software crashed
If the Mac is awake and the base station has a light on, the bridge software probably crashed. The collars are still recording GPS silently, so nothing is lost. This needs a remote restart.
Stale map data
Restart Haven
This will restart the entire Haven system. It refreshes all connections including GPS data. Everything will be offline briefly.
Needs Michael
Beyond the basics
The collars record GPS data even when the display system is down. No zone alerts will fire while tracking is offline, so keep an eye on the dogs until it's back.

Nice! You fixed it.

Dog tracking should be back online. Give it a few minutes for positions to update on the map.

Everything Is Down

Step 1 of 3
Check your internet
On your phone, toggle WiFi off and back on. Can you load anything? If your internet is down, restart the router: unplug it for 30 seconds, plug back in, wait a couple minutes. If internet is fine, the problem is local.
Step 2 of 3
Restart the Pi
Unplug the USB-C cable from the Pi connected to the router in the shop. Wait 10 seconds, plug it back in. Red light on immediately, green light blinks. Wait 5 minutes. HA, photos, and dog tracking all run on this box, so everything comes back together.
Step 3 of 3
Needs remote access
If the Pi is on and the router is up but things still aren't working, it's a software issue. Note any error messages and which lights are on. Nothing is permanently broken.

Nice! You fixed it.

Give everything a few more minutes to fully come online. Tablet, photos, and dog tracking may take a bit longer to reconnect.
